North Herts LCWIP Consultation    5 October, 2022

Hertfordshire County Council in partnership with North Hertfordshire Council and supported by our consultants WSP have developed a Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for the District. LCWIP’s are a long-term (10 years) strategic approach to cycling and walking improvements within a defined geographical area, and form part of the Government’s strategy to increase the number of trips made on foot or by cycle.

The purpose of the plan is to set out a vision for a safe and attractive network of walking and cycling routes in North Herts. The development of the LCWIP has considered the current provision and projected demand for walking and cycling in the District. As a result, key prioritised walking and cycle routes have been identified, audited and interventions suggested. A focussed group of stakeholders including County and District Councillors and officers along with representatives from walking and cycling interest groups have been given the opportunity to participate in the development of the plan.  This included the agreement of the prioritised routes for audit and review of the proposed interventions through two online engagement sessions held on 21 July and 29 November 2021 and an in-person workshop on 1 December2021.

The draft LCWIP document outlines how the priority routes have been selected and proposed changes which would support those who cycle and walk across the District. The document will be presented along with the proposed infrastructure plans as part of a public consultation on the proposals. Once finalised and adopted the LCWIP will assist Hertfordshire County Council in securing funding from Active Travel England and developers.

Consultation

The public consultation is now live and will run for a six-week period closing 7th November 2022.
