Queens Green Canopy "Plant a tree for the Jubilee"    15 September, 2021

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique and exciting, UK-wide tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.  It invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee.”

In Hertfordshire, everyone from individuals to scout and guide groups, villages, town and parish councils, schools, charities and corporations are encouraged to get involved by planting trees, woodlands, hedges and avenues to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation, for the benefit of its residents and future generations.

The QGC initiative recommends planting during the official planting season, October to March, to optimise the chance of trees surviving and flourishing which gives time across the summer to plan for your Jubilee tree planting projects.

Hertfordshire County Council’s Sustainability Team are delighted to be supporting Hertfordshire’s Lord Lieutenant, Robert Voss, in delivering this project.  The team are coordinating Hertfordshire’s response, so we’d love to hear from you!  A dedicated email QueensGreenCanopy@hertfordshire.gov.uk has been set up for you to send questions, gain planting advice, funding information, details of sources of free trees and photos of your planted trees so we can add a pin to the map and celebrate the planting of a green canopy across our beautiful county.

If you would like to get involved with this fantastic initiative, please do get in touch to discuss ways we can support you.
