| "  Winter Health Advice  Dear Watch Member, Our partners at Herts County Council are sharing top tips to stay healthy this winter and asking people to think now about how the arrival of colder weather could impact their health. With a few simple precautions, most of us can be ready for the really cold weather and avoid much of the misery associated with it. The impact of falling temperatures is felt most by older people, the very young and those who have pre-existing medical conditions (eg. respiratory conditions or heart disease). Although most advice on how to keep warm and well is common sense, it’s important to recognise that some people will find these things difficult to do without help. So, whether it’s an older neighbour, friend or relative who is not in best of health, please take time to think about how you might be able to help them stay healthy this winter. If you qualify for the free flu jab, get it before it’s too late – it’s the best protection. If you are struggling to stay warm in your home this winter, or are worried about someone who might be at risk, HertsHelp can help you find out about support that may be available. Visit your local pharmacy for advice on many common conditions. Minor injuries units and urgent care centres treat injuries like sprains, cuts and minor burns. For an illness that won't go away, contact your GP.  Dial 111 for free if your surgery is closed or if you need advice on where to go, including which pharmacies are open late. A&E is for serious injury, illness and life-threatening conditions such as heart attack or stroke.
